Years ago, the Weiden family of Narrowsburg donated to the Cochecton Preservation Society a vintage wooden egg shipping box that was used to send eggs to their family in NYC via railroad. The box has a hinged lid with a latch that closes with a swivel L-shaped hook. It did not lock.

I do not like getting up in the morning, so I was not looking forward to being in Liberty at 7:30 in the morning to get on the bus. MILFORD, PA — Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Tanya Riker, from Milford, mans the nozzle of a fire-fighting hose aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Ross (DDG 71) during a main space fire drill on the Mediterranean Sea on May 22. USS Ross, forward-deployed to Rota, Spain, is conducting naval operations in the U.S.

Among the first plants to flourish in my garden come spring is lovage (Levisticum officinale). Known to the French as céleri bâtarde, “fake celery,” this stalk-less leafy herb does have a very similar green, slightly salty flavor with a pleasant hint of bitter.
The Haidee post office in Scott Township, Wayne County, PA, was established in by Edwin Tallman, who described how Haidee became Winterdale. “In 1875 I sent a petition to Congress for the establishment of a post route from Thompson, Susq. Co., Pa. to Hancock, NY. I had the honor of naming the Haidee office.
Oh my goodness, it feels like summer is here early. I think I like the cold better—no bugs or allergies. I love to shovel snow when it is not too heavy and wet. I like to put a sweater on to warm up. When it is hot out, there are just so many pieces of clothing you can take off.

One resident remembers Elaine and her husband Tom DeGaetani coming to Narrowsburg and getting involved in the community almost immediately. Who were these “artsy” people?
MONTICELLO, NY — The Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce & the Monticello Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting and celebration for Savory Sweet Confections at 452 Broadway, #3, on June 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. The ribbon cutting will be at 4:30 p.m. There will be a contest, raffle, refreshments and mini cupcakes.
