Wood sculptor Todd Lantz solicited Lumberland’s participation in Upper Delaware Scenic Byway’s (UDSB) pollinator gardens program to improve the habitat for pollinators, particularly the monarch butterfly. UDSB is offering small grants to offset the cost of plants as well as one of his award-winning sculptures (pictured here at the eagle observation site in Minisink Ford) to provide continuity for the program. The program is offered to communities who are willing to help pay and sustain it. The town board agreed that the site of the town’s existing welcome sign at the county-line intersection of County Road 31 and State Route 97 would be appropriate.

Tick populations are soaring throughout the Upper Delaware River region, and ticks that were once uncommon, such as the lone star tick depicted here, are increasing in number. According to the PA Department of Health, Pennsylvania has led the nation in confirmed cases of Lyme disease for three straight years. The black-legged deer tick is the species most likely to transmit Lyme disease and has been found in each of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. Visit to learn more.
