All Work and No Play
This was one of those weekends where I didn't really do much but it somehow felt incredibly busy. Although it did start out with some fun.
I continued my new Friday night tradition of swing classes at the Western Hotel in the ballroom. Susan is an amazing teacher and we have so much fun. Anyone can join, you don't need experience. We learn through silliness in Susan's capable hands.
After class I was starving so we went downstairs to sit at the bar. I got one of their signature hand-crafted cocktails, the Mexican Firing Squad. I can't remember exactly what was in it, but I know there was tequila. I also ordered the grilled cheese which comes on seeded sourdough bread, with caramelized onions and gruyere cheese, and a small cup of bone broth to dip into. It was amazingly delicious. I paired it with a side of sautéed greens, a simple dish that the chef elevated into something special. The restaurant and bar are open for dinner; I highly recommend going.
Saturday I had a "housewife day" (is that politically correct?) Maybe a domestic day. I started out with some cleaning, then I did laundry which had piled up to mountainous proportions. After four grueling hours of laundry, I stopped by the grocery store and cooked up some chili. The perfect winter meal. I don't follow a recipe, I just throw in what I like: green peppers and onions, ground beef, tomatoes, and kidney beans. Plus a lot of spices. Cook it all up until it thickens. I also like to top it with some cheese, sour cream, cilantro and avocado (tortilla strips are good too, and gives it a crunch). After my domestic day I gathered with friends for a game night. So I guess there was some play.
Sunday was the quintessential Sunday: relaxing and doing nothing. Hmm what did I even do, I can't remember. Sunday night I watched the finale of the HBO show "Westworld." It's a crazy show, you just have to watch it.
