Monticello man arrested after high-speed chase


On Sunday March 10, 2018 at 10:23 PM, Monticello police Sgt. David Lindsay was patrol on Forestburgh Road in the Village of Monticello when he observed a white 2016 Ford Fiesta being operated in an erratic manner. Sgt. Lindsay then initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle on Broadway. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle, the operator of the stopped vehicle suddenly sped off at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit then ensued onBroadway and then subsequently on to side streets along the south side of the village.

The operator of the pursued vehicle drove in an extremely reckless manner at a high rate of speed, running past stop signs, driving in the wrong lane on Broadway and running over traffic signs. While being pursued officers observed the operator throw a small plastic case out of his vehicle onto the roadway. Officers were finally able to get the pursued vehicle stopped on St John Street and arrest its operator, Terrell Troy, age 37, of Monticello.  Officers also recovered the plastic case thrown by Troy during the pursuit and found that it contained .8 grams of crack cocaine, 8 glassine envelopes of heroin and a crack pipe. Troy was also operating the vehicle with a suspended driver license.

Troy was charged with felonies for pessession of drugs, fleeing an officer, and related charges. He was also issued 24 vehicle and traffic violation summons.    

Troy was also wanted by Monticello police in a separate investigation into the cashing of a forged check at a Village of Monticello business on 12/29/17 in the amount of $675.00. As a result of that investigation Troy was additionally charged with felonies  related to the frogery.

Troy was arraigned before acting Village of Monticello justice LeoGlass and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $ 50,000.00 bail pending further court action. The Sullivan County Sheriff Office and New York State Police assisted Monticello police in the pursuit and subsequent arrest of Troy.
