Winter fun at PEEC
DINGMANS FERRY, PA — The Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), 538 Emery Rd., has a variety of programs to keep you entertained while winter chill finally settles on the landscape.
On Saturday, November 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a game dinner. This popular event sold out in 2015 and 2016. The dinner features local game and seasonal harvests. The evening will start with a reception in the Ecozone at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. in the dining room.
On Sunday, November 19 from 1 to 2:30 p.m., you can bring your children to “Little Eco Explorers: Bears.” This hands-on program for young children includes a story, craft and activity focusing on black bears. The cost is $5.
Then get ready for the holiday season with “Holiday Bows and Boughs” on Sunday, November 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. Create your own holiday decorations using natural materials. PEEC provides evergreen boughs and materials, but you can also bring your own supplies and decorations. There will be music, drinks and snacks. The cost is $20 per wreath.
PEEC will hold a Winter Ecology Hike on Saturday, December 2 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The event is free for members, $5 for non-members. All ages are welcome.
If you prefer to say inside, visit the Ecozone Discovery Room on December 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. Climb into a bald eagle’s nest, crawl into a bat cave, explore a beaver lodge and dig in a fossil pit. Explore this indoor discovery room and enjoy hands-on exhibits on natural history, sustainability and the local environment. The cost is $2 and registration is not required.
