REGION — The old year ended and the new one began with a blast of Arctic air covering the region and much of the eastern part of the country. Another blast of cold air is expected to descend on the region into Friday morning.

MONTICELLO, NY — One way of measuring growth in Sullivan County is to count the number of reviews the county planning department performs each year. The department is required to perform a “239 Review” for projects that have “potential countywide or inter-municipal significance.”

Pike zeros out new budget

MILFORD, PA — The new Pike County budget came out on December 17 as quietly as Santa down a chimney.

No tax millage increase is called for. The 2018 plan calls for $40 million in spending, a $3.2 million reduction from the current year’s budget, which required a 1.2 mill tax increase.

Lumberland town clerk Virginia “Ginny” Horn recorded her last regular town board meeting on December 13. Horn, who has served as clerk since 2002, did not seek re-election and is retiring. “Thanks for all the years. I’m going to miss everyone, but I’m looking forward to retirement,” Horn said.
