In My Humble Opinion

An impressive array of Tibetan bowls was  on hand for Mark “Dr. Dream” Peebler’s “Tour of Love,” at which he provided a “sound healing experience.”

Mind over matter

The past few days have been thought provoking, to say the least. Multiple visits to the doctor for both me and the Wonder Dog were on the docket, and while I’m all for conventional medicine, a part of me also believes that “alternative” forms of treatment might be just as beneficial. And then there are days when I’m not sure what I believe.

Performing mega-hit ‘Message in a Bottle’ at Bethel Woods last Friday night, chart-topper Sting proved that he’s still got it. IMHO.

So long, summer. Say hello to fall.

Believe me, I’m in no rush to see summer end—but fall is coming, whether I like it or not. Officially, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings, and that won’t occur until the 22nd of this month, but we all know that Labor Day is the beginning (insert frownie-face emoji here) of the end.

Mike (not Carl) Jung was one of the performers on the bill at last Thursday’s Lakeside Music Series held in Gazebo Park on Kauneonga Lake

Hooray for Hurleyville!

For something completely different, synchronicity reigned supreme last week as Hurleyville, NY crept into my psyche on more than one occasion.

Forestburgh Playhouse resident company members entertained the crowd during the Gala in the Garden fundraiser last weekend.

Be our guest!

As a general rule, working on the weekend is okay, I suppose, but every once in a while, it’s inconvenient.

One lucky fan had a hands-on experience with singer Chris Lane during the ‘Smooth Tour’ opener’s performance at Bethel Woods last Thursday.

Many hands make light work

I had difficulty determining whether that phrase is an idiom or a proverb, but since an idiom can “often be misunderstood from the meanings of its individual words,” while a proverb is a “short popular saying expressing belief that is generally thought to be true” (www.wikipedia.com) I’m going with proverb.

The Forestburgh Playhouse production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ is a colorful, candy-coated time machine destination, adding to my ‘60’s themed weekend.

I’m not dead yet…

And if running around at breakneck speed last week didn’t kill me, nothing will. “You do it to yourself,” my shrink said. “Nobody is holding a gun to your head.” She’s right of course, I’m just not sure that I know how to do it any other way.

Johanna Spoerri opened Callicoon’s Gallery 35 in July and is “honored to know so many talented artists whose work graces the walls.”

Goodbye, July!

Wow, man. Between the never-ending rain and the plethora of events in the Upper Delaware River region, July has come and gone.

Depicting the real-life 1899 newspaper boys’ strike, Disney’s “Newsies” is currently playing at the Forestburgh Playhouse.

Where everybody knows your name…

The lyrics from that old television theme song often pop into my head as I make my way from town to town in search of leisure-time entertainment, in the hopes that by sharing my thoughts (aka “humble” opinion) on all that I see, I can encourage you to get out there and support the arts.

Sharing that her daddy is a drunk who got sober and married a girl not much older than herself, country crooner Lauren Alaina engaged the crowd with southern charm at Bethel Woods last Thursday.

The hills are alive

Yes, the sound of music fills the air throughout the Upper Delaware River region all year long, but especially during the summer, thanks (in part) to the Pavilion concert season at Bethel Woods. Don’t get me wrong, I love checking out the local music scene and really enjoy the wide variety of entertainment that our home-grown bands provide.

A performance by the Catskill Dance Company opened the 20th anniversary party at the NACL Theatre in Highland lake last Saturday.

Happy anniversary!

Admittedly, I have more than a few miles under my belt at this stage in life, but it is milestones of a different sort that have cropped up over the last few days.
