'Darkest Hour' kicks off series of award nominees
CALLICOON, NY — Kicking off the movie awards season, Delaware Valley Arts Alliance and the Callicoon Theater will present several Golden Globe and Oscar contenders in January and February as part of the CineArt series. It will start on Friday, January 12 with Gary Oldman in “Darkest Hour.” Oldman is nominated for a Golden Globe for the performance.
During the early days of World War II, the fate of Western Europe hangs on the newly appointed British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Oldman), who must decide whether to negotiate with Hitler, or fight on against incredible odds.
“This is the role of a lifetime for the veteran actor—and he delivers the grandest performance of the year,” says Mara Reinstein in Parade. It is rated PG-13 and will screen January 12 through Tuesday, January 16, nightly at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Among the other critically acclaimed films likely to screen in January and February include “The Post,” “The Shape of Water” and “Lady Bird,” directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Saoirse Ronan.
The Callicoon Theater is located at 30 Upper Main St. Admission costs $11 ($9 on Mondays and matinees), and $8 for children under 12 at all shows.
